How To Make A Cucumber Martini

In our Drink DuJour, a bartender at one Manhattan hot spot shares the secrets of their signature cocktail

This springtime drink at the DL, a restaurant and lounge (and summertime roof deck!) on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, might be called a Martini, but it was inspired by a different cocktail.

“I wanted an enhanced version of a Mojito,” Courtney Tietze, Dinner on Ludlow and The DL’s Head Craft Bartender, says of his creation. “All the ingredients add a uniqueness to the drink that comes together in a very refreshing cocktail. It’s a cocktail that gives a little something to all your senses.”

Here’s how to make one for yourself:

Cucumber Martini
2 oz. vodka or gin
1 oz. elderflower liquor
1 oz. aloe juice
1Ž2 oz. lime juice
Splash of Prosecco
3-4 slices of cucumber
6-8 mint leaves

Muddle slices of cucumber and mint leaves in a mixing glass. Then add all ingredients, add ice and shake vigorously 20-30 times. Pour cocktail through strainer into a chilled martini glass. Add a good splash of prosecco and garnish with a wheel of cucumber on the rim of the glass.
